An imposing French heavy cavalry breastplate (cuirass) from the late Napoleonic era, dated 1813. Manufactured at the Klingenthal works, it features the distinct brass-faced steel construction designed to deflect musket balls and saber blows. The leather liner details have mostly perished, but the metal shell remains strong and solid. This armor would have been worn by a Cuirassier in some of the final, desperate charges of Napoleon's campaigns. A striking display piece that embodies the grandeur and brutality of 19th-century warfare.
